Manigault Newman filed a class action lawsuit in May 2019 alleging that the Trump campaign organization had violated the Equal Pay Act. Alva Johnson, a former Trump campaign aide, accused the president of sexual assault during the 2016 presidential campaign and filed a complaint against him in federal court earlier that year, sparking legal action. On the campaign trail, Johnson also asserted that “women of color were paid less than white men” with comparable or lesser professional duties.
